Everyday should be like Valentine’s Day…

I’m writing this today as everyone will be blogging tomorrow, either loving or hating VDay, so thought I’d get ahead of the game and talk about something that’s important to me – Love!! I’m not talking about the hearts and flowers kind of love that tomorrow is so well known for. I’m talking about putting someone first, making an effort, thinking about someone, even if that someone is you!!

For those of us lucky enough to have found someone to put up with us I’m not saying that VDay is small Potatoes but it is not enough to buy flowers, a card, choccies and a bottle of fizz tomorrow (although trust me they are important) and then spend the other 363 days of the year lounging on the couch paying more attention to the TV than to that special someone.
363 days I hear you cry!?! Forget about your special someone’s birthday, then tell me my maths is wrong!!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not getting all preachy here!! I’ve been that person for way too many years and am just really lucky that the Dazzler played the long game and is way more forgiving than most. Take his birthday a couple of years ago. I arranged to work from home and promised bacon butties and tea in bed, only to get stuck on a conference call all morning!! Now what do you think sticks in his mind, that or the meal we had that night? Let’s just say I’m reminded that I owe him birthday breakfast every time we have a row!!

I’m constantly hearing people bemoaning that they haven’t got the time, or the money, or ‘other things get in the way’ but it is important to make the effort. Late last year the Dazzler spent some time up at his mums and on his return. After a six hour journey I surprised him with this…

It took me an hour start to finish to make and used up stuff I had in the cupboards so cost pennies, but the look on his face was priceless!! Sometimes it really is the little things that make the difference, and if you keep at he little things then VDay really just becomes another chance to show that special someone that you love them, not the only chance!!

Today we were shopping and the Dazzler told me I smelled nice which led us to a conversation about aftershave and the fact that we are running out of our favourites. As we are both broke at the moment, we agreed we’d get them as BDay presents and carried on shopping. At lunch, after we had split up to buy bits, the Dazzler surprised me with this…

It’s got such a cool smell, fruity but not feminine and I’ve loved it since it was released. He told me its perfect for a VDay present and he couldn’t wait!!! Not only that he told me it was a bargain…and now you know why I love my Dazzler!!

So what are we doing for VDay?

We are going to be romantic AND thrifty. Dazzler got my pressie and I ordered £40 worth of gourmet chocolates for £7 by joining a tasting club (membership already cancelled!!) so that’s his pressie sorted. My wonderful brother and his wife got us vouchers for cinema & restaurant so we are going out for lunch tomorrow and for dessert we are heading to the cinema to watch Beautiful Creatures with treats. If all that doesn’t exhaust us then we will head off to Thursday night special at our favourite bar/club and dance the night away. Total cost of a days full of fun, about £20, who says romance is dead!!

Ain’t Love FLABULOUS!!
